Alaska Deer season to open Aug. , slow recovery in Northeast Chichagof July 28, 2011, Alaska, Juneau Empire

According to a release from the Alaska Department of Fish & Game, deersurveys this spring indicate a continuing rebound in the population, especially south of Tenakee Inlet. Harvest of female deer in this area is not considered to be a concern. ...A slower recovery is still evident in the Northeast Chichagof Controlled Use Area and at this time the department anticipates a doe closure for an additional season in this particular area. During the month of August, ADF&G staff will be working in the field, radio collaring deer, and retrieving collars that have dropped off for analysis...
