Tongass Deer Modeland Use

Ted Schenck reported the US Forest service is engaging in deer modeling with the Alaska Department of Fish and Game. The critical question for deer is having sufficient forage in the fall before winter sets in. They are looking at what the habitat looked like in the past, how it looks now, and alternatives for how it will look in the future.

Schenck said the judge in the Scott Peak case asked for more information about how they document their work. In response the Forest Service held an interagency meeting, developed standards, and is now doing analysis of those standards. Wolfe indicated Sealaska's strong support of federal subsistence management.
