Arizona 260 drivers have learned that when the sign flashes, there's a 700-pound reason - the average weight of an elk bull - to take heed. Collisions with deer and elk can cause significant damage to cars, Deer also are detected at the experimental site, but far more elk are in the area.The huge animals are using what is believed to be the world's first elk crosswalk, a $700,000 experiment east of Payson that has saved the lives of beasts and man alike
