Elk Range Expansion Plan Stirs Debate February 29, 2012 Arkansas, KARK

The US Forest Service and the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission are preparing to cut and and clear thousands of acres of forest land ... Elk Program Coordinator Wesley Wright says there were elk in Arkansas back in the 1800s but they were hunted off ... Wright says the project is about more than elk, and that deer, bear and other wildlife will benefit from the expansion. But he also admits they need the elk to draw in the money from special interest groups.
