Out-of-state deer being inspected | disease, deer, game  November 16, 2010  California Unfortunately, a deadly disease could become a threat to California's deer and elk population if allowed to cross borders into the state. 

California Department of Fish and Game wardens are checking hunters at California's border entry points to prevent the introduction of Chronic Wasting Disease, a fatal neurological disease of deer, elk and moose.
