...the “partnership” of the DFG and the Humane Society to combine reward money [for a poached mountain lion] has riled some in the state’s hunting community. It’s being looked at as “infiltration” by an anti-hunting organization into the very fish and game agency that promotes hunting and fishing.... Mountain lions, despite their detrimental impact on deer herds, livestock and human safety in California, are a “specially protected species” in the state as a result of two voter propositions that ensured their lasting preservation. It’s illegal to hunt, trap or kill them ...
