Yuba County says no to doe hunts January 17, 2012 California, Appeal-Democrat

... Commission chairwoman Debbie Byrne of Loma Rica said some commissioners are concerned the state hasn't undertaken a comprehensive survey of the local deer population in some time. Anecdotally, she said, some hunters and biologists believe the population is about 12,000, down from 19,000 a few years ago.... it's not clear whether hunters killing does under state permits is to blame. Other counties, including Butte and Colusa, have also asked the state not to allow doe hunting, but the populations continue to decline.
