Siskiyou supervisors: County targetsdeer hunting February 2. 2011 California Record-Searchlight "In all the counties in California, the deer are just hammered," said Rick Costales, the county's natural resources policy specialist. ...Department of Fish and Game spokesman Andrew Hughan said Siskiyou County's supervisors are the first in the state to take such steps.

"We applaud their efforts to take responsibility not only for the ongoing health of the animal herds but the economy of the region for the hunters in the near and long term," Hughan said Tuesday.

The supervisors' proposal would change how deer tags are issued to hunters in the county's portion of the B zone, a vast swath of land west of Interstate 5 that stretches to the Pacific Ocean from Glenn County to the Oregon border.
