New Habitat For Deer And Elk On Battlement Mesa August 22, 2011 Colorado,

...Their goal was to recruit help in restoring habitat for deer and elk in the area. Denny Behrens of the Colorado Mule Deer Association (CMDA) says that in the 1960s and 70s, there were more than a million deer in western Colorado, but fifty years later, of the biggest problems is segmentation of the natural habitat...they are working with landowners... removal of the piñon, juniper, oak and serviceberry scrub...allows the sage and grasses to return.... much more nutritious to the animals.....A similar project near Molina in the Plateau Valley has been very successful...
