Outraged at the recent killing of 17 deer on Charles Island, Arlene Corey of Seymour and other supporters of Friends of Animals held a protest at the entrance to Silver Sands State Park in Milford ...DEP spokesman Dwayne Gardner said that the deer were more susceptible to disease because they were malnourished.

The Connecticut Audubon Society endorsed the killing of the deer because the bird species nesting there are important to its members, Rice said. But, she said, there is no evidence that the birds and the deer couldn't co-exist. She disputed claims that the deer shot were starving or diseased
