Thinking of whitetails at the end of deer season December 26, 2013 Connecticut,  Norwich Bulletin 
... Connecticut first opened a statewide deer hunting program during the 1970s ... the harvest as of December 22 (when we called) was down by about 20 percent ... when the mast crop (primarily acorns) that deer feed heavily on during the fall to put on the extra weight required to get them through the winter is high, the deer harvest tends to decline...  deer do not have to travel very far to feed, thereby reducing the odds of them walking past a waiting hunter...
