... Hunters are coming off a third straight record harvest, having tagged 134,004 deer in 2010... "A lot of people kill for the horns," Smith said [a lifelong deer hunter] ... Unregulated hunting by settlers eliminated deer from Indiana by the late 1800s, according to the DNR. Deer were reintroduced to the state in the 1930s and 1940s and adapted to the new agricultural and urban landscape....Mounds is one of the few state parks where deer reduction has not yet been needed.... It appears deer come and go from the park and have plenty of other food sources outside the property.
