State parks close for deer hunting  November 16, 2010  WNDU-TV

On Monday morning, Potato Creek State Park in North Liberty was at capacity with about 160 hunters coming in when the park opened early. The park is one of 16 state parks that closes for two rounds of "controlled" deer reductions.

All parks keep an eye on their vegetation to determine whether or not a deer reduction is necessary. Hunters are required to bring their deer to the park's check out before they leave. The buck or doe is tagged, weighed, and an approximate age is recorded.
