In 1994 a unique strain of the disease was discovered in Michigan's wild deer herd, and later identified in deer held in some game ranches as well as some cattle farms. As a result, various levels of quarantine we imposed on Michigan livestock farms ...The disease is still found in wild deer and efforts are underway to build barriers that prevent wildlife and cattle in at-risk areas from mingling at sources of feed and water.
