... lumber for other uses comes increasingly from eastern and western Canada ... The result is that prime deer habitat in the northern lower and U.P. is reverting to mature forest at a rate not seen here for nearly 40 years, and deer numbers are dropping along with the amount of good habitat.... Those changes have had little effect in the southern Lower Peninsula, where most of the forests disappeared 150 years ago ...
