Deer forecast 'decent,' crossbow users up September 25, 2011 Michigan, The Flint Journal -

... Hunters took almost 418,000 deer combined for all seasons [in 2010] ... approximately 117000 deer during bow season. [in 2011] good numbers of deer in southern Michigan and "decent" deer numbers in the northern Michigan ... Crossbow use grew dramatically in 2010. It rose from 57,000 archers using them in 2009 to approximately 90,615 last year statewide...crossbow hunters enjoyed a 35.6 percent success rate...Baiting is not allowed in the northeast corner of the Lower Peninsula, an area known as deer management unit 487 where bovine tuberculosis has been found.
