Michigan hunters killed only 418000 deer last year, down about 6% from 2009, which wasn't a particularly good year, either. We miss the good old days -- not 1958, but rather 1998, when hunters took almost 600000 deer. Deer hunter numbers have fallen by a quarter since the late 1990s, which is almost the same rate as the decline in harvest numbers. Considering the herd is supposed to be a bit more than half the size it was then...
