Grand Haven: More research before decision on urban deer August 17, 2010 Michigan

In Grand Haven, city council members voted that more research is needed before they can decide what to do with their large urban deer population. ..

Last year, the city hired sharpshooters to kill the deer, but this year there have been more sightings and complaints and also more people voicing concern against killing the animals.

Members of the Urban Deer Task Force established triggers to allow culling - like the number of traffic accidents, damage to the ecosystem and if the deer are aggressive. A former task force member says the damage to residential gardens is not a good reason.
