Aerial Survey Methodology, 

Bell Jet Ranger turbine-powered helicopter & mobile GPS equipment.  

. The aircraft flies 1/8–mile transects over selected park lands at an average altitude of 700 feet (min:500'/max. 900'); traveling approx. 1 mile/ minute
To maximize visibility of deer, surveys are conducted in winter when 4-6” of snow cover is present.  
Survey counts are a “snapshot-intime” and should be viewed as the minimum size of a deer population.

. Estimate 70% - 80% of the actual deer population
