2011 had plenty of ups, downs in the outdoors December 31, 2011 Minnesota, St. Cloud Times

CWD testing was winding down in the Pine Island area as more than 1,000 deer had been shot and tested for the disease. All tests came back negative and DNR officials were confident that the deer shot in November and tested positive for CWD was an isolated incident.... DNR officials announced that the number of moose counted earlier in the winter throughout the northeast part of the state fell to 4,900 animals. That was down from 5,500 the previous year and continued an alarming downward moose population trend in the state...
