Testing samplings of deer for chronic wasting disease has become a necessity. Editor's note: Guest columnist Robert Zink is a professor in the Bell Museum at the University of Minnesota. Happily, after recently testing 1180 deer near Pine Island, no new cases of chronic wasting disease were found. While people can't be infected, it is not clear how the disease is transmitted from deer to deer in the field.
