... In January, the Department of Natural Resources announced that a test done on the deer [a doe shot by an archer south of Pine Island] proved positive for the disease [chronic wasting] ... To control the spread of the disease, the DNR banned feeding of deer and told those raising deer or elk that they had to add another layer of fencing. The disease had been found several years earlier in an elk herd between Pine Island and Oronoco, and the entire herd was shot....
