... 44 cows equipped with GPS collars designed to track the animals' movements over the next year... Once the information from the annual migration habits of the animal is downloaded into a database, the collars are fitted with a new battery and placed around the neck of a new elk. "It's a huge cost savings for us to be able to reuse these collars over and over again," said FWP Bitterroot-based biologist Craig Jourdonnais. ... The collars cost somewhere between $1,200 and $1,500.
