... However, the Appellate Division of the State Supreme Court granted a preliminary injunction on Friday in favor of residents who sued to stop the plan, according to court documents ... According to the state Department of Environmental Conservation, in 2009-10 deer-culling activities took place in 15 locations in New York. That resulted in 868 deer being removed in 2009-10, according to the DEC. In 2010-11, deer-culling activities have taken place at nine locations in the state, according to the DEC.

The Cayuga Heights Board of Trustees unanimously approved legislation tonight that will allow them to hire sharpshooters to begin eliminating some of its deer population... [there is currently an appeal to a court decision, so the cull can't proceed until the issue is resolved].
