Cayuga Heights clear to move forward with plan, Deer-culling foes drop appeal August 23, 2012 New York, Ithaca Journal 
... Under the permit from the state Department of Environmental Conservation, the village proposes to surgically sterilize a core population of does and cull up to 85 deer initially... The cost of the program is estimated to be $1,000 per sterilization and $400 for each deer culled, according to the village website.... Giacalone and his 12 clients filed a lawsuit in May 2011 that challenged the village’s deer-management program, calling it arbitrary and capricious...
