Syracuse, SUNY ESF study: Nearly 220 deer call the east end of Syracuse and part of DeWitt home April 9, 2014 New York, Syracuse Post-Standard 
... The highest concentration was recorded around St. Mary's Cemetery, where the researchers estimated a herd containing possibly as many as 60 deer are located...  "They destroy your beautiful landscaping and carry ticks that can make you very sick that can give you Lyme disease ... "  said Brian Underwood, a U.S. Geological Survey research wildlife biologist who teachers at SUNY ESF [The adult ticks found on deer are not in the stage that transmit Lyme to humans, deer are immune to Lyme, unlike mice, who transmit the disease.
