Smithfield OKs deer hunts August 9, 2011, North Carolina, TheHerald

Starting this hunting season, Smithfield residents may take out unwanted deer in their backyards with a bow and arrow.... Hunters will have to follow all state regulations, and they will have to shoot from eight-foot-tall stands and be at least 150 feet from property lines....Smithfield's rules are less strict than those in other North Carolina towns that allow urban deer hunts....In years past, Smithfield had paid its police officers to hunt with guns and bows. But Chief Michael Scott ended the practice after last year's season, saying the program was too costly....
