Surveillance for diseases in deer populations on-going September 29, 2011 North Dakota, Bismarck Tribune

...chronic wasting disease [CDW] is of the most concern ...Until 2009, CWD had not crossed the borders into North Dakota ... two cases prompted officials to ban deer hunting over bait in that unit....Recently an outbreak of  epizootic hemoragic disease, or EHD...sometimes called bluetounge, can decimate deer populations ... it’s a naturally-occurring malady and not much can be done to prevent its outbreak....hunters are asked to remove the heads of the deer or elk and drop them off at any number of sites or at a Game and Fish Department district office, see www.gf.nd.gov
