... Across Ohio, the number of deer taken on the first day of deer-gun season was down by nearly 7,000. In Van Wert County, the number of deer checked in Monday was down considerably over 2012. Only 42 deer were taken in the county as opposed to 76 on the first day of the season last year.  The season runs from Monday, Dec. 2 through Sunday, Dec. 8, and plenty of hunters will be out all week - around 420,000 are expected during the week in Ohio...
