“When we first discussed it, it came out as a total ban against deer feeding,” Olesen said. “Then we listened to some of the public ... Council’s safety committee then reworked the ordinance to allow police more discretion on when to cite residents for feeding deer. If residents with nearby neighbors are creating a nuisance by feeding deer, police may ticket them. At the same time, if a resident on a large piece of land without nearby neighbors chooses to feed deer and no one complains, police likely would not take any action.
