Wolf-supporting research lacks rigor January 18, 2011 Oregon, Wallowa County Cheiftain

... (landscape ecologists, to be exact) would have us believe that the return of the wolf will put our ecosystems back in order.. .An article published in The Journal of Wildlife Management by other university professors tells us that the decline of the Yellowstone elk herd was largely caused by hunters ... In contrast, wolf predation on elk was found to be mostly "compensatory," meaning that if wolves hadn't killed the elk, they would have died from other causes anyway. If that is really the case, why was it necessary to reintroduce wolves to bring elk numbers down?
