Woes could continue into deer season August 10, 2011 Texas

Woes could continue into deer season August 10, 2011 Texas, Jacksonville Daily Progress

Deer eat acorns in the winter, but Eric Taylor, forest management specialist for Texas AgriLife Extension Service, said conditions are right for oak trees to abandon their acorn production this year because of stress....“The one thing that I think will be seen by hunters is that there may not be a very big fawn crop this year, because as doe can’t provide for their fawns, they don’t put themselves in a bind.” Price said. “You could say they abandon a fawn, but it is because they can’t produce enough milk to keep a healthy fawn.”
