Who owns all deer in Texas? You may be surprised  December 8, 2010 WFAA  by DAVID SCHECHTER HUNT COUNTY — The mass euthanization of a herd of 70 deer is raising questions about who actually owns the animals. ...if breeders can raise deer — and sell deer — how can the state come onto their private property and kill something so valuable? The answer is simple.

"All deer in the state of Texas belong to the State of Texas," explained Capt. Garry Collins, a spokesman for the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department.

While some other states permit private ownership for qualified deer breeders, Texas does not.
