Love 'em or hate 'em, urban deer herd is growing February 18, 2011 Utah The Herald Journal North Logan officials received so many complaints this winter that they sent residents a six-question survey about the situation. The results were nearly perfectly split, with 123 of the 256 respondents saying yes, there are too many deer inside the city limits, and 133 saying there weren’t too many deer. Darren DeBloois, a wildlife biologist with the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources, agreed that even if people support the removal of the deer, there is no practical way to do it.
“This is a tough issue to tackle,” DeBloois said, noting that there are essentially two herds in the area now — a migrating herd and an urban herd. “They’re coming down to find something to eat and they’re finding tasty treats in neighborhoods. They’ve found a safe place, a lot of food.
About the only thing that takes them out is cars.”
