As Vermont mourns mammal's death, questions swirl October 15, 2011

...Vermont Gov. Peter Shumlin paid tribute Friday to the moose [Pete] who previously triggered an impassioned debate about the ethics of confining wild animals in game hunting parks.... Nelson wanted to sell hunters the right to shoot the deer, some of them trophy-size animals, and seemingly received that right under the terms of a secret deal in the 2010 legislative session....The Fish and Wildlife Department and hunters, however, insisted no person has the right to own, buy or sell native deer.
