THE PRELIMINARY numbers are in, and the total deer kill numbers for Virginia dropped significantly last hunting season--15 percent below the 259147 reported killed in 2009 and 3 percent lower than the annual average for the last decade. A couple of factors contributed to the overall decline. One is the state's deer plan of the past several years called for laying the hammer on does across much of Virginia.
