As the number of hunters around cities and towns has dropped precipitously, deer have become so abundant that locally they now resemble small dogs more than stately bucks. A dusk visit to Eastern State Hospital grounds or Jamestown National Historic Park will reveal large herds of fearless stunted deer coming out of the forest to graze on the lawns.
