Population Goals in 2013 January 2, 2013 Wisconsin, JSOnline.com
Look for the Legislature to revise or delete three long-standing planks of the Wisconsin deer management program: Deer population goals for deer management units (DMUs); the definition of deer range; and the use of the Sex-Age-Kill model to estimate deer numbers.  Granted, the SAK model was rendered useless by Earn-A-Buck regulations and exposed the DNR to substantial criticism; at least some DNR wildlife managers will be happy to see it go...  it will no longer have numerical deer population goals, but will develop "metrics" based on habitat and societal preferences.
