... The state uses a Winter Severity Index (WSI) ...calculated by accumulating one point for each day air temperatures are at, or below, zero degrees and one additional point for each day that snow is more than 15 inches deep. Anything less than a 100 WSI reading is considered a mild winter and anything above it starts to raise concerns... some regions in the northeast part of the state have now exceeded the 100 WSI thresholds..
