Deer hunt marked by warm weather, deer harvest up November 24, 2012 Wisconsin, Milwaukee Journal Sentinel
The 2012 nine-day gun deer season ends Sunday in Wisconsin... The mild winter of 2011-'12 and early spring green-up resulted in good fawn survival as well as good antler growth on bucks.  And less aggressive herd control regulations the last couple years, including prohibiting antlerless harvests in some zones and an end to Earn-A-Buck regulations statewide, have allowed more does to survive and reproduce...The larger deer herd is reflected in the opening weekend kill of about 135,000 whitetails, 19% more than the first two days of 2011... the Department of Natural Resources reported 614,435 deer hunting licenses sold as of opening day, 2% more than last year.
