... The controversial earn-a-buck rule — which required a hunter to shoot a doe before being eligible to shoot a buck in certain areas with high deer populations — has been permanently scrapped by the state Legislature. The four-day late October antlerless deer hunt — which also was used to reduce deer numbers in units with populations that were substantially over management goals — was also ended by the Legislature... Wallenfang, the DNR big game ecologist, said that while deer numbers are generally rebounding around the state, areas in the north remain below goals...
