Make sure deer study really is free of bias October 4, 2011 Wisconsin, Journal Times
... [Governor] Walker promised to "fix" the state's deer population problem and put more deer in the forest. He said, as others have asserted, that the Department of Natural Resources has mismanaged the herd....for many years Wisconsin's deer herd has exceeded the population goal. And the number of licensed hunters has stayed relatively steady. On the other side is the number of car-deer collisions ... started dropping in 1996 and settled at a new level about five years ago, but we don't know what factors, other than the number of deer, may have led to this change.... whether the problem lies in perceptions which we may not recognize or acknowledge.
