Sub-committee to draft urban deer cull strategy  April 5, 2011 Canada Urban  Cranbrook Daily Townsman

The City of Cranbrook has been directed to take the next step in what it hopes will eventually lead to a problem deer cull in the city in the fall. At its meeting Monday evening Cranbrook Council authorized the Urban Deer Management Advisory Committee ...

Part of the UDMAC's recommendations to Council back in February was to have a problem deer cull where 10-12 animals would be killed in the Baker Hill and Victoria Avenue and Second Street North areas. Part of the recommendation was that Council request Ministry of Environment conservation officers conduct the cull.

But at the meeting on March 23, Canuel made it clear to the committee that having the conservation officer service carry out any type of deer cull within the City is outside their mandate, as laid out by the Ministry of Environment.
